Tommy Garland Clinic at Freedom Farm Benefits Young Horsemen

Winston Churchill said it best: “There is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man.”

Or, in this case, a youth.

Horses have unique power to grow, change, improve, and equip us – when all along we thought we were the ones training them. This unique bond, and this amazing animal, are what we are all about at Freedom Health. That is why we jumped at the chance to host a Tommy Garland Clinic that is all about benefiting youth.

The clinic, organized by the Northeast Ohio Arabian Horse Association (NEOAHA), will be held next Friday, June 24 at our Freedom Farm Equestrian Research and Training Center in Ravenna, Ohio. All riders in the clinic are members of the NEOAHA “Iron Arabians” youth group. These 13 young riders and their horses are getting the chance to learn from a legend in both the Arabian Horse Show circuit as well as in horsemanship training.

On top of that, all proceeds from the Tommy Garland Clinic will benefit Right Lead and the Iron Arabians youth group. Right Lead is a 501c3 non-profit charity program that uses horses to reach out to at-risk youth here in northeast Ohio.

About Tommy Garland & CPR Clinics

Tommy Garland grew up with horses and has been training them for over 30 years. He holds more than a few National titles in Western Pleasure and Hunter Under Saddle with Arabians and Half Arabians, as do many of his students.

Tommy has a unique horsemanship philosophy called CPR – Confidence, Patience, and Respect – that forms the cornerstone of his teachings at clinics and on his popular RFD TV show. We love this philosophy and think it’s right on, whether you are training the outside of your horse for a great ride or conditioning the inside for total digestive health.

Next week’s clinic will alternate between groundwork and under saddle work with the youth. Based on videos and bios that the riders submitted, Tommy put them into groups and will focus on various aspects of horsemanship with each.

About Right Lead Horsemanship Program for At-Risk Youth

Director Tammy Rohrer Collins explains the Right Lead program best:

“A horse is on the RIGHT LEAD when he leads his body with his inside front leg as he travels in a circle. Otherwise he is on the wrong lead and will become unbalanced and falter. When a child lives a life without good chances, he too, needs to find the RIGHT LEAD. Otherwise he will become unbalanced and falter.

“RIGHT LEAD uses Equine Assisted Learning techniques which enables “At-Risk” children to develop trust, responsibility, self-esteem, team work and good communication skills. The horses learn trust and can be placed in loving homes.

All proceeds from the Tommy Garland Clinic will go to benefit Right Lead and the Iron Arabians Youth Group.
